1989, Shaw split up from Young lead Styx because it was too theatrical, Jack Blades took break from Nightranger and Ted Nugent had something in common: The Damn Yankees. It came from a question someone asked Uncle Ted after rumors circulated that he was forming a side group with Tommy Shaw??? His reponse: “I don’t know, we will probably sound like a bunch of damn Yankees!”

It was a reference to the Gulf War. In mid 1991, Damn Yankees shared the bill with Styx. DeYoung replaced Tommy. Things had gotten heated. Tommy would play ‘Babe’ (a song by Dennis DeYoung). Ted would come and break the guitar.
