Classic rock news

1) Joan Jett and her former Runaway bandmates filed a lawsuit against a tribute album that was supposed to come out in June. They cite not getting permission. “It’s not about money, it’s about preserving their reputation.” The record company’s response: 36 bands have donated their songs as a tribute. This was also done to fund cancer research. Net proceeds will be donated to Sandy West who lost her battle with cancer. Various individuals who worked on the project were associated with the Runaways in some way.

2) According to Women’s World Daily: Steven Tyler will serve as the muse for new Charles Andrew Menswear line. It’s a rock n roll menswear line that will be available in Macy’s this Fall.

3) Music Journalist Will Romano’s New book about progressive rock artists such as Yes, Crimson, Incurable Blues. Mountains Come Out of the Sky. It is available at all bookstores now.

4) Rush is coming out with a new DVD this September 27th. It will feature footage from April 15th’s performance in Cleveland, Ohio. The DVD will be called Time Machine. They are working on their new album Clockwork Angel.

5) In Paris, a fan, Christophe Maillet opened a bar in Paris who wanted to honor Jim Morrison and the Doors. He received a letter from Door’s legal team that they do not want to be seen as promoting ‘drinking’. Ironic, isn’t it? “The Doors do not want to be seen as having approved your establishment and also the consumption of alcohol.” The drinks are also Doors themed. Maillet: “I didn’t do it to destroy the Doors, I did it to make them happy.”

6) Journey’s new album is coming out. About its creation: It is called eclipse. Neil Schon turned ‘belligerent’ when he had to work with Kevin Shirley. It is a return to their ‘progressive rock roots’. 9 out of 12 songs are over ‘five minutes long’. Currently on tour and triple billed with Foreigner and Styx.

7) It is that time of year where Kay goes back to the theatre award. It is Tony Awards Season. Tony Awards will be at the Beacon Theatre. Book of Mormon, Catch me if you can and yes, Sister Act!

8) Neil Peart does not like drum solos: In the early days, they would ask him to play ‘In da gadda da vida’ and he would say ‘Why?’
